Mission and Purpose:
The Southwest Consortium for the Mathematical and
Life Sciences (SWCMLS) is an organization of member
institutions committed to expanding the
opportunities for education and research within the
Southwest region of the United States in the
mathematical, theoretical, and computational
programs in the life sciences. The consortium
supports its objectives through collaborative and
cooperative activities that promote a healthy and
diverse community of researchers and students in all
stages of their careers. Membership is open to
organizations that participate in the efforts of the
Consortium.
The inaugural meeting was held on January 14-15,
2005, to set up a regional agenda that promotes and
supports synergistic interactions between
biologists, computational scientists, and
mathematicians who live primarily in the Southwest
or who have interests in promoting or participating
in research that supports the growth of the
mathematical biology community in the Southwest.
