I grew up in Highland, MI, which is a small town about an hour north of Detroit. I did my undergrad in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan. There I got my first taste of research, working for 4 years on the development and integration of experimental and theoretical methods to understand the kinetics of ligand/receptor binding, receptor processing, and their effects on the innate immune response. I also worked for one year in mathematical epidemiology to understand the impact of a protective mutation on HIV dynamics in sub-Saharan Africa. I am a third year graduate student at Arizona State University, working with Professor Carlos Castillo-Chavez. I have passed the qualifying examinations in my first two years. Currently I am starting with my thesis research and studying for the written comprehensive exam, which I will take in Jan 2006.
