I’m My name is Loan Nguyen and I was born and raised in Chandler, Arizona. Growing up I was exposed significantly in the area of mathematics from my parents. However, my interest did not emerge until I was involved in the Math-Science Honors Program (MSHP) at Arizona State University (ASU) during my high school years. During this experience I learned a new appreciation for the area thus began my studies at ASU in mathematics. While starting my undergrad in mathematics, I participated in the REU Undergraduate Research in Biological and Mathematical Science (UBM), where I was introduced to the area of mathematical-biology. This experience interested me in that there is a correlation between two completely different subjects. As a result, I have decided to continue pursuing a higher degree in mathematical biology. Currently I am working on a project focusing on mathematical models of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections. This May I will be finishing my undergraduate degree and starting my graduate studies here are ASU.
