Daniel Romero was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and moved to the United States when he was fifteen years old.  He graduated from Desert Mountain High School.  After he finished high school he decided to major in Mathematics. He attended Scottsdale Community College and graduated with highest distinctions in May of 2004. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in May of 2006 and graduated Summa Cum Laude. He is currently working on his Masters in Mathematics which he plans to complete in May of 2007.   While attending ASU he has received some awards including the 2005 Charles Wexler Mathematics Prize and the 2005 Dean's Circle Scholarship in Mathematics.  He also received the National Science Foundation's WAESO Bridge to the Doctorate Fellowship for 2005-2007. It would have been impossible for him to achieve these accomplishments without the help of Dr. Castillo-Chavez and MTBI.  Once he finishes his Masters degree he plans to continue his education and obtain a Ph.D in applied mathematics, possibly at a different university.
