Carlos Alan Torre was born in Lima, Peru and grew up in Westchester, New York.  He completed both a B.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and a M.S. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell University.  In 2006 he joined Arizona State University for a graduate degree in mathematics. His past research was focused in solid mechanics, invesitgating compressive failure of composites.  He also was part of the Cornell Hybrid Electric Vehicle (CUHEV) team, as well NASA's University Research, Engineering, and Technology Institutes (URETI) project.  His current research interests are stochastic and deterministic modeling of dynamical systems in biology and mechanics. His goal is to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics to become a better engineer.
