My name is Angela R. Ortiz.  I am from Canovanas, Puerto Rico. I am married and I have a son. I have participated in MTBI during the summers of 2001,2002 and 2004. At MTBI I worked on several research projects including: "Am I Too Fat? Bulimia as an Epidemic," "Preventing Crack-Babies: Different Approaches of Prevention," and "USA the Fast Food Nation: Obesity as an epidemic." The fact that I have had to deal with very difficult situations, especially financial woes, motivated me to study and become a good student at a very early age.  In a home where none of my siblings studied, a mother  with only a bachelor's degree and a father with only some high school who died when I was fourteen  years old, I decided that I would excel academically.   At present, I am working toward a PhD degree in Statistics at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona.
